VICTORIA REDEL with JULIA FIERRO
Co-presented with HEDGEBROOK.
In Victoria Redel’s novel, Before Everything (Viking), a group of friends who have known each other since girlhood gather as Anna, the group’s trailblazer and brightest spark, enters hospice care. Inspired by her own close friendships of over 45 years, this book explores the web of women’s friendships that develop over a lifetime.
“Victoria Redel bears witness to a remarkable group of women, weaving back and forth through time, each thread revealing the cracks and secrets of their complex lives while also drawing them closer...She proves that female friendship is the quiet, steady engine that truly runs the world.” -Hannah Tinti.
Also reading tonight is another New York author, Julia Fierro, also an alumna of Hedgebrook Writer’s Retreat. Her book, The Gypsy Moth Summer (St. Martin’s Press), involves the return of a long absent daughter, whose interracial marriage and teenage children upend a seemingly idyllic Long Island community.
“The Gypsy Moth Summer plunges the reader into a hazy, hot daydream of hidden truth, scandal, and racial prejudice. With bold strokes, Julia Fierro creates a vivid world where privilege and class are merely a veneer to distract from the cracks beneath the surface.” – Jodi Picoult.
