Your Art Will Save Your Life (Paperback)
This book is a love letter to artists and a cry to keep making art no matter what challenges arise. Driven by current American politics and a passion for the arts, Pickens argues that in times of uncertainty and pain, communities need art more than ever to illuminate their personal and collective possibilities. The knowledge Pickens shares from her own experiences in the arts and in advocacy, along with the workbook exercises in the latter half of the book, will give every creator the foundation they need to move forward no matter what they face. -Justus— From Spring Booknotes 2018
"A survival guide for the creatives among us." --Nicole Georges, author of Fetch: How a Bad Dog Brought Me Home
As a teenager visiting the Andy Warhol Museum, Beth Pickens realized the importance of making art. As an adult, she has dedicated her life to empowering working artists. Intimate yet practical, Your Art Will Save Your Life helps artists build a sustainable practice while navigating the world of MFAs, residencies, and institutional funding.
